I Am a Delicate Lobster

We're going to do this point-form(ish) since a lot has happened in the last week, and no one wants to read a novel on a blog.

Night 3 and Day 4 in Chiang Mai
After the temple on the mountain, Michelle and I attempted to go to Monk Chats, but realized we actually went to the wrong temple so decided to have dinner instead. It was my first close encounter with a ladyboy, and he clearly hated his job. I've been told that being gay in Thailand is not okay unless one is a ladyboy, which is why there are so many around. I'm not totally sure if this is true or not, but it would make sense.

Went out to a couple of rooftop bars with some lovely Scottish ladies, and sample a few fun cocktails known as "Cheers Sexy" and "Sex on the Rooftop." Clever, no? (Rooftop bar, sex on the beach becomes sex on the rooftop).

After checking out of the hostel, we went for breakfast/lunch and decided to go for massages. I had a sunburn so couldn't get a Thai massage, which Sarah and Amy said was incredible, so I got a reflexology foot massage and manicure instead. So worth it!

40 hours of crap travel. Urgh.
We took overnight buses from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, spent 12 hours in Bangkok (not as bad as I thought it would be - played cards with Brits for a large portion of the day), then took a bus from Bangkok to Phuket. Or so we thought. We actually got dropped off at Surathanni, waited for a few hours, then had a local bus (meaning to stops a bazillion times on the way to pick people up and drop them off at non-stops aka on the side of the road) to an hour outside of Phuket/Patong Beach. We then took a van from wherever we stopped to Patong Beach, which took us 20 hours instead of 12. Gross.

Patong Beach:
Full of tourists, don't go. Prices are jacked, and the vendors yell things at your constantly. Gross.

MAGICAL
We met up with Emily Rathfelder, the British leader from my summer camp in Austria last year - so lovely to spend time with her outside of CISV. :) She was hanging out with some friends from home, who happened to be at our hostel in Chiang Mai - crazy small world!
The beach magically transforms into a club scene every night, so if you don't like one club you can just head on over to the next to dance it up with a different kind of music. Or there are bars with chairs along the beach. Also, before dancing starts, there is jump rope, limbo competitions and super crazy fire dancers who oil themselves up to attract people.
Also, buckets are dangerous. For you younger readers, terribly sorry about the following comments: for an incredibly low price, one can have a bucket made. This means half a mickey, a can of pop and a redbull with amphetamines. YIKES.

So the first night, it poured rain. Emily and I danced in the rain, then went swimming in our clothes, and continued to dance in our wet clothes once the rain had stopped. Needless to say, those clothes are smelly and sandy. Eep!
Paddy's GB Restaurant has amazing food, both Thai and Western. And he offers half price on a lot of things, as well as one free shot after the meal. Good ol' Paddy. Also, fruit shakes are the greatest here. A mango or pineapple shake in the morning for breakfast is divine. And cheap!
Didn't do a whole lot of sight seeing on Phi Phi. It's more of a party island.

Now I'm in Bangkok to see Harry Potter - SO STOKED, and will head to Bali early on Sunday. CRAZY!

NB: the title of this post.
It would seem that I a delicate little flower. I have hives all over my back and bum, more of a heat rash, really... I am always hungry no matter how much I eat, and I am a lobster, as I got burned while on the beach two days ago. I was covered in SPF 50 waterproof banana boat, went for a swim, got out and dried off, then reapplied. Apparently I didn't reapply fast enough. Urgh.
