Florida Week 1

So, I am officially homeless.

I'm staying with my grandmother in Florida for 2 months.
I have a phone.
I will have internet 2 days from now.
I have 2 new catch phrases: "girl news:" and "real life" 

While here, I intend to get fit. I swim laps to start everyday, walk a whole lot, and am eating good meals cooked by my super awesome grandmother. Real life.
I'm working on a book of breast portraits, blogging, and continuing to work for the Acoustic Opera. I'm staffing a CISV village in Denmark in July, so will have various staff meetings. Here's hoping I manage to keep busy, otherwise, ima lose my mind. Thank goodness I now have a phone and can stay in touch with my peeps.

So, Erin flew down with me, and we're on day 5.

Brussels

Right, so. Staying and visiting with CISVers for 3 full days in Brussels means getting to know a bunch of the local stuff rather than all of the touristy stuff. Fun things I did/learned: Brussels is French; around the city is Dutch; and then there's a Flemish part of the country. Apparently there's a bunch of drama between the regions due to culture and language. The Grand Place aka main square is totally beautiful, inlaid with all kinds of gold. It looks super old, but, turns out that Napoleon burned the crap out of the main square in the 1800s. They rebuilt it, so this square is quite new.  Brussels' big claim to fame is Mannenkepis: A tiny little boy peeing into a fountain ... he's maybe 2 ft tall. They dress him up in various costumes (firefighter, soldier, businessman, geisha, etc.), and tons of people take a photo with him. Aruba: My 30th country!

My goal was to get to 30 countries by my 30th birthday. I had a plan for 2018 of how to make this happen:  I would go to an island near Australia with my friend from Philippines in July when we both had some time, and then go to a different island for my 30th in October. But then I had to return to Canada from Australia in April and leave Aus for good in September, and my dear friend had lots of work travel on the go so we simply could not make our travel plans work. Luckily, my friends decided to go to Fiji in February and invited me along, so that was Country 29. And then in July, once I knew I'd be back in Canada as of mid-September, I set out recruiting people to join me on a 30th birthday trip in the Caribbean somewhere. Vietnam: Hanoi Pt 1

April 30: I slept until 3pm. At 6, Tom and Miu, the leader and a participant from a CISV Camp in Norway in 2014, picked me up for dinner and drinks. We had several drinks, including a cannabis-laced absinthe (though definitely not real absinthe because I was not hallucinating and I didn't feel high in the slightest, which was kind of disappointing). At 5 am, I woke up feeling absolutely terrible. Seems I got traveler's diarrhea from my first meal in Vietnam. Womp womp. May 1: Tom picked me up for brunch ... Seems that noodles are eaten for 3 meals/day. I tried Bun Cha and absolutely loved it! We were served a huge plate of half-cooked rice noodles, fresh vegetables (mostly yucky greens and bean sprouts), and a bowl with sweet broth and fried pork.
